Funeral on ice to Kelly's Island for Civil War veteran
Michael Hughes aged 79 from Kelly's Island died at the State Soldiers' Home. His coffin was moved by hand sled drawn by sons George and John over Lake Erie's ice to Kelly's Island for funeral and burial. He served in Company L of the 130th Ohio Volunteer Infantry.
