Republicans in Sixth Fear Redrawing Districts

Republican leaders in the Sixth district warn that abolishing the Fourth and merging counties into the Third and Sixth could shift the Sixth from a GOP stronghold to a doubtful seat. The Fourth, a Democratic base, includes Decatur county, while Franklin Hancock and Shelby lean Democratic in the Sixth. If the Fourth’s eleven counties join the Third and Sixth, Decatur likely stays Sixth. other Democratic Fourth counties risk turning the Sixth Democratic. The Third is also viewed as Democratic territory, potentially amplifying GOP fears.
