Funeral Services Held March 12 For Mrs. J N Cornelius

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon March 12 at 3 00 from the First Baptist Church for Mrs. Lillian Leona Brooks Cornelius who died March 19 after a lengthy illness. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery with Hayward Funeral Home in charge. She was a Jefferson resident ten years born August 19 1875 in Hope Arkansas and survived by one son five daughters nineteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Marion County Home Demonstration Council Plans Easter Sale

The Marion County Home Demonstration Council met March 11 with eight members from five clubs. They reviewed committee reports, set plans for the Easter Food Sale on April 9, urged members to donate baked goods eggs or dressed poultry, and elected delegates Irma Jaynes H S Morrow and L Williamson to the District Meeting in Marshall on April 13.

Texas In Review to Film Pilgrimage for Garden Club Event

The Jessie Allen Wise Garden Club reports Humble Oil will film the 1955 Pilgrimage titled Texas In Review. The program will depict Jay Gould’s Jefferson visit with Civil War era costumes urged from Jefferson and Marion County residents. A copy of the film will go to the garden club and Jefferson Historical Museum.

Martha McCraw Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met at Mrs Jesse DeWare Jr home March 12 with spring flowers and blue and white decor. The program featured talks on proper flag use and DAR insignia. guests included Mrs Lynn Green and Miss Ethel Rush DeWare. A Hollywood film Oil Field Service began in Jefferson with the Hughes Tool Company rock bit development at the Jefferson Foundry and Machine Shop. Prue Freeman and Allen Benefield contributed machinery operation credits.

Cover Crop Demonstrations Underway By Jefferson FFA

The Jefferson FFA chapter demonstrates cover crops on leased land funded by Mr Bailey. Four plots study combinations of oats vetch crimson clover ryegrass singletary peas with two oat varieties. Early grazing shows seed oats outperforming, under heavy grazing, while plots have seen grazing since February 26. Bryon Waldrop reporter.

Powell Named Cass County Auditor

C. H. Harold Powell of Linden was appointed Cass County auditor by District Judge Maxwell Welch after the death of W. H. Robertson on February 26. Powell, a Cass County native, served a decade as deputy in the tax collector office and worked in Lone Star Steel’s accounting department. He is married to Louise Stone of Linden and belongs to the American Legion and the Methodist Church.

Young Adult Class To Hold Benefit Sale This Weekend

Jefferson High School Choir presents Pickles, an operetta set in Vienna. Performances March 24 at 7 30 p m and March 25 at 1 00 p m feature Jonas Pennington Sylvia Ellison and Bill Bennett with a cast including Janene Carwile Benton Moore Lynette Harris Larry Smith and Don Brooks.
