Splash Day Set at Jefferson Lions Pool June 3

Splash Day at the Jefferson Lions Club Pool on Saturday June 3 announced by President Wayman Moore. Repairs completed include pool interior painting, bath house trim, concession stand wood, and pipe replacements. Admission is 10 cents per person and a house-to-house season ticket sale is planned June 1.

Final Rites Held Tuesday for L M Wolaver

Funeral services were held at 10 am Tuesday May 30 at Haggard Chapel for Lee Mark Wolaver of Jefferson a retired Phillips Oil Company employee. He died May 28 in Jefferson. He was born August 9 1899 and resided in Jefferson 25 years. He was a WW I veteran and a member of the First Baptist Church and Ashland Masonic Lodge No 1138. He and his wife Mrs L M Baker Wolaver were married 45 years. Survivors include his wife one daughter Marie Frances Wolaver two sisters one granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

Forty Three Students Earn Perfect Attendance Certificates

Forty three elementary students from first to sixth grade received Perfect Attendance Certificates for the 1966 67 nine month school year. Principal Marion Betts credited teachers and parents for maintaining a year with no absences or tardies and listed the names of all recipients.

Edward Joseph Named Teller At First National Jefferson

Edward Joseph a lifelong Jefferson resident was named head teller at the First National Bank of Jefferson. He will also work in the loan and discount department and begins June 5. Joseph is a Jefferson High School and East Texas State College graduate with a business degree and previously served as loan officer at Marshall National Motor Bank. He and his wife are members of Christ Episcopal Church where he is Senior Warden.

Jefferson Jr High honors graduates named at ceremony

Seventy one Jefferson Junior High School students were graduated into high school in a May 25 ceremony at Jefferson High School auditorium. Sixteen earned honor graduate status with 90 plus averages, and valedictorian Kenny Brown had a 95.80 average while salutatorian Letha Knight shared honors. Americanism Awards were presented by Edward Taylor of the Proctor Meisenheimer American Legion Post 304 to Toni Hernandez and Jimmy Smith for exemplifying honor leadership scholarship and service.

Cypress Basin navigation project requires phased planning work

Editor notes the Cypress Basin navigation facility project moves through a lengthy sequence of local resolutions congressional input and committee reviews. Steps include economic studies surveys and possible additional analyses before final approval by the Board of Engineers for Rivers and Harbors and the Chief of Engineers. The Cypress project is at the stage of governors and federal agencies being informed with Texas contacted last November.
