Indian War Begins Near Mt Sedgwick After Stock Raid
The Chicago Journal reports the Indian War has commenced with 250 head of stock driven off near Mt. Sedgwick. Henry Carlisle’s freighter mules and Veasey Wall & Co.’s cattle were seized. Night herders killed, trains attacked, forces under Captain Neill pursued, five attackers killed, fifteen wounded, ponies and arms recovered, two of our men lost. Three hundred Shelan warriors moved within three miles west of the fort amid hostile signs.
