Warm weather was expected nationwide with a 10 to 15 degree rise in many areas. Temperatures ranged from the 50s to 80s, with 51 in Grand Marais Michigan, and notable warmth on the Gulf Coast and lower Mississippi Valley. Funeral Services For Swim Champion Martha Brown Held
Funeral services for Martha Novelius Brown former Olympic swimming champion and first woman to swim 10 yards in under a minute were held today. She died yesterday at St Luke Hospital after a pall bladder operation at age 45. Brown defeated Clarette Ederle in a 400 meter race in 1929 and was once called the world’s greatest swimmer. She and husband Alanson C Brown Sr moved from S J Lovins to Pass Christian Mississippi four years ago. She was a native of Stockholm Sweden.

In Columbus Ohio the first group of RHA jets began a reconnaissance mission to photograph ten U S cities for the Strategic Air Command event. Five wings from Lockbourne Forbes AFB Topeka and Little Rock AFB took off to target Springfield St Louis Kansas City Madison Danville Little Rock Charlotte Atlanta Denver by day and night using flash photography. a second flight is set for Thursday.

Family of Five Killed in California Crash
A four car crash on the San Bernardino Freeway killed a family of five and another four in Los Angeles last night. Victor L. de Casas, 32, Santa Fe grocer, was booked on six counts of manslaughter after his sedan hit a concrete divider and erupted fuel into flames. Dead include Joseph Golden, 54, Duarte, Minnie, a daughter Tinga 4, Hubert 9, and Wilami Spackler 1. The Hoorn family of four from Van Nuys suffered injuries. An opened liquor bottle was found in De Casas ear.
