Balloonists to participate in Bennett race banquet

Nine balloonists from six countries will pilot bags in the James Gordon Bennett International Balloon Race starting in St. Louis. A banquet by the St. Louis Chamber of Commerce air board will set positions with the first ascent at 4 p.m. and subsequent launches every five minutes.

Questionnaire Reveals What Students Spend On Campus

St Louis Washington University survey of 200 questionnaires shows women students spend more per month on tobacco products action pictures candy and ice cream than men. Women list large clothing needs including two sports outfits eight dresses five pairs of shoes stockings underwear and gloves while men spend more on dances. About 25 percent of both sexes drive cars.

Double Murder Mystery Near Galesburg Illinois

Police and the sheriff investigate a double homicide in Galesburg with bodies of Mary Hawkinson and George Martin found at Hawkinson’s home in Dayton Ohio. Husband Al Hawkinson is in custody after neighbors say he woke them and requested help. Evidence includes a razor and a bloodstained room amid a fierce struggle.

Painter Falls From St Charles Bridge Into Missouri River

William Olphanhoff 42 of Chicago is hospitalized in St Charles Missouri after a fall from the St Charles bridge while painting. He was rescued by a coworker in a motorboat and suffered multiple broken ribs and possible internal injuries.

Man Adjudged Insane Killed After Escape Near St Elmo

A. J. Manser of Honerville Missouri, recently adjudged insane, escaped while being transported by his brother W D Manser from Detroit to Missouri. The man was struck and killed by a car on a highway near St Elmo Illinois as the pair rested roadside. The driver stopped after the accident and alerted authorities.

Beady found on Highway 13 inquest rules auto death

Coroner Dycus of Fayette County led an inquest into the fatal auto accident on Highway 13 two and a half miles east of here. He ruled Mariser was killed by an automobile and identified the driver as unknown.
