WHITE PLAINS New York Sept 25 AP A mistrial was sought after Justice Tompkins barred the slick haired defendant from singing lines of two sentimental songs on the stand. Earl Peacox testifying in the torch murder case described killing his wife then faced cross examination about the songs Just A Memory and Love Sends a Little Gift of Roses. Trial disruption centered on whether the words could be spoken or sung.
Market activity eased after early rallies as big offerings hit popular stocks. U S Steel fell after hitting new highs, Commercial Solvents dropped sharply, and several rail and industrial stocks declined amid concerns over credit, auto output, and steel mill activity.
