Federal funds halted in 24 states as WPA programs near December 1 deadline. Hopkins warns only essential new projects may be submitted while total approved projects exceed quota. White House reports over 4 billion in approved projects with about 1.1 billion spendable by states, as 3.25 million are estimated employed on federal work programs.
Clark McAdams, 61, contributing editor of the Post-Dispatch, died at home of cancer after more than 35 years on the staff and leading the editorial page from 1929. His column Just a Minute ran over 20 years and his verse Uganda satirizing Theodore Roosevelt’s African safari was widely copied. Surviving are his widow Laura Baker McAdams, two brothers John D. McAdams and William McAdams, and four sisters.
At about dusk a motor car driven by Charles Fred James of Centralia struck an unidentified man about 16 years old four miles northeast of wire on U S Highway 24. James, blinded by lights, failed to see the pedestrian. He posted a $1000 coroner’s bond and awaits the inquest set for December 6.
Two thousand children welcomed Santa as the parade moved past crowded streets and second story windows. Scouts distributed candy while old toys gathered for repainting by volunteers at the West End fire station. Santa urged more toys be brought for poorer homes and promised a return visit on December 18.

Carrollton Mo Nov 29 AP reports Charles Meadows 65, a Carroll County farmer, killed himself with a shotgun after pushing the trigger with a lever. authorities cite ill health.
ST LOUIS November 29 AP Father to California Livermore financier James Livermore, son Jesse, was critically wounded today in Santa Barbara California. The elder Livermore, longtime trader, left for California after learning of the injury while in St Louis for the Merchants Exchange Thanksgiving visit.
Eight St Louisans were fined by a justice of the peace after arrest for possession of game without Illinois licenses. Wardens stopped them at the east approach of the Ends and Municipal bridges over the Mississippi and confiscated a Thanksgiving day bag of thirty rabbits, three squirrels, and one quail. They were forced to buy Illinois licenses costing non residents 15.50.

Washington dispatch reports that administration leaders aim to spend about seven billion dollars in the next fiscal year to cut relief costs by eight billion and edge toward a balanced budget. Buchanan predicts roughly 31.5 billion for relief in 1936, including 0.5 billion for public works and 2 billion of work relief potentially not spent by June 20. He favors ending direct relief and notes hearings on appropriation bills will begin next week.
In Springfield Missouri a search for 90 year old William A. Davis, father of Federal District Judge C. B. Davis, was conducted after a witness reported seeing a man resembling him enter a laundry on Wednesday. The man reportedly gave the name Dowd when collecting clothes and denied being Davis. John F. Davis, another son, traveled to Springfield as the elderly man has been missing since last Friday.
A Missouri Pacific train mail car robbery attempt failed last night when the emergency brakes activated by a passerby. Conductor Harry Mason saw a man leap from the car. the suspect escaped. An investigating revealed mail clerk Frank A Kennedy was in an adjacent car during the incident.
Washington November 25 AP complete liquidation of the federal emergency relief administration, which since May 1933 spent more than 3 000 000 000, was announced today by Harry L Hopkins. President Roosevelt said the work program had given jobs to 3 125 000 of 3 500 005, and states and territories have had their last allotment by FERA. The legal liquidation date was given as December 31. A new theory of sound holds that the human ear is a stringed instrument.
Midwest specialists forecast higher corn belt income with 1936 farm prospects buoyed by increased hog and corn production, modest price gains, and stronger short term loan demand. Officials cite improved conditions, but warn weather and economic shocks could alter outcomes. California gold output for 1934 totaled 719,063.92 ounces valued at 25 million dollars.
Miss Grace Palmelier, 61, was fatally injured in Moberly Missouri yesterday when struck by a motor car driven by an unidentified person who fled the scene. Police reported the fatality occurred on a city street as investigators sought witnesses and the vehicle involved.
