Neosho Life Magazine co founder dies at 69
Dan Longwell, longtime Doubleday executive and Life magazine pioneer, died after a three year illness. He helped establish Life in 1936, served as executive editor then managing editor, later chaired the editors board until 1954 and aided Neosho Industries development and Crowder College efforts. Funeral Friday at First Presbyterian Church.

Prison elevator collapse injures three in Missouri prison
Three men, two inmates and one guard, were hurt when a freight elevator broke loose in the Missouri State Prison food service building while workers were removing old equipment. The elevator plunged three stories, two inmates were among the injured and treatment ranged from serious to critical as officials withheld names pending relatives.
