A coach from Queen Victoria era used to carry mail and passengers between London and Boxhill has reached Philadelphia with New York mail. Industrialist Philip Hofmann organized the stagecoach voyage to promote the Bicentennial and raise funds for charity.

A cattle truck crashed through a guardrail on the Lewis and Clark viaduct of Interstate 70 in Kansas City killing about a dozen cattle. Driver Glenn Hawk of Centerville Iowa survived with minor injuries. Cattle owned by E. E. McCreary of Centerville were en route from West Virginia to Aline Oklahoma. Injured animals were euthanized or taken to slaughterhouses. traffic halted for hours.
Missouri Attorney General John Danforth ruled that state legislators may rent real estate to state agencies if the lawmaker does not receive personal service payments. The opinion, requested by Rep. Margaret Miller, addresses Rep. James Strong’s office leases to Lincoln University, the Cole County Extension Center and the State Highway Commission, totaling $21,600 annually, and says current statutes do not ban such arrangements.
Copenhagen reports Denmark has banned private driving on Sundays, ordered a quarter cut in heating oil sales, and limited electricity use as part of sweeping energy savings. The measures add to recent 50 mph highway and 37 mph urban speed limits, and halt outdoor Christmas lighting, signaling a bleak holiday season amid Western energy shortages.
The First Church of Christ Scientist at 415 Monroe Street holds its Thanksgiving service at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Nixon Thanksgiving proclamation will be read. The service will be conducted by Mrs Vera Carter first reader and Mrs Helen Lee second reader.
