Kidnapping Case Involving Bank President’s Wife

Lima police and the FBI hunted a man about 36 as Mrs. A D MacDonell reported a kidnap attempt. She said a man in green overalls forced her to wire a $50,000 ransom, claiming he held her 1 year old daughter Amy upstairs. The money was paid, the assailant drove away in her car and left, the child unharmed.

Deaths August Fluegel of Lohman Dies

August Fluegel 77 of Lohman died Thursday at Jefferson City hospital. Born August 15 1891 he was the son of Wolf and Hiza Fluegel. A World War I veteran and St Paul Lutheran Church member he lived on a farm near Lohman. Survived by sister Mrs August Linsenhardt Lohman brother Martin Fluegel Centertown and several nieces and nephews Funeral services 2 pm Saturday at St Paul Lutheran Lohman with Rev Harold Martin officiating burial in church cemetery.

Fire damages trailer at New Bloomfield

The New Bloomfield Fire Department was called to Summit Trailer Court near noon Thursday to extinguish a blaze in the trailer home of Mrs. Joan Perillo. Fire officials reported smoke and water damage extensive, but the trailer was saved.

Graveside rites for Merlyn Jones a Tipton native occurred today at 10 a.m. at the Oddfellow Cemetery in Tipton. The late 70 year old was born May 11, 1898 in Tipton the son of Wilbur and Ora Fry Jones. He died Tuesday in San Bernardino California. He is survived by his wife Jane Jones.

City woman’s mother dies in Lebanon

Mrs. Bertha Bilderback, 79, of Conway, mother of Mrs. Carl Wickman, 1618 Taylor Drive, died early today in Lebanon. Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. Lowell McBride, of Lebanon.

About 200 resident women students staged a quiet sit-in at the University of Detroit demanding better campus security after a spate of assaults and an attempted rape. Missouri Extends Credit Card Tax Payments Statewide

Missouri residents may use Bankamericard to pay motor vehicle licenses drivers licenses and sales tax at Department of Revenue offices. Incomes tax can be paid in person in Jefferson City. The program starts Nov 12 in St Joseph Independence and Kansas City branches with Bankamericard imprinters and monthly billing to cardholders.

Missouri rural water districts gain funds for 1969

Water district funds totaling 5 355 500 and grants of 858 000 have been reserved for 32 rural Missouri communities to develop water or sewer systems in fiscal 1969. Loans and grants announced by J E Jose state director for Farmers Home Administration cover Public Water Supply District No 4 Boone County Hallslie Water Supply District Audrain County Thompson for a water system Mexico for a water system and Public Water Supply District No 1 Camden County Macks Creek for a water system financed by funds authorized earlier and by a 5 million increase in the agency s insured loan program. When completed the projects will provide modern water and waste disposal facilities to about 20 000 rural Missourians.
