Burns says Phase 2 targets on mortgage and consumer credit

President Nixon's new commission on interest and dividends will focus first on mortgage and consumer credit and other rates affecting families. Chairman Arthur Burns noted no mandatory controls are expected, with standby authority mainly voluntary. He warned that rates will be influenced by inflation potential, wage and price programs, and shifting money market pressures. Burns described the aim to reduce lags between rate changes in different markets. Burns came out See Phase 2 Page 6.

Blood red China flag hoisted at UN headquarters

At U N headquarters the gold starred red flag of Communist China was raised for the first time since China joined the United Nations new name and placement of the flag caused by China s inclusion. Two U N guards raised the banner amid a small crowd of photographers and TV crews as China requested to be listed under C in the UN rolls.

Revenue official accuses Bond of misleading in data audit

State Revenue Director James E Schaffner alleges Bond misled in an examination of the Department of Revenue data processing unit. Bond claimed access was restricted by the director to personnel records, affecting the scope of the audit. The auditor released copies of his examination claiming the scope was materially restricted.

Midwest Research Low Bidder for State Revenue Computer Study

Midwest Research Institute of Kansas City emerged as the apparent low bidder at 16000 for analyzing four bids by firms seeking to handle the state Department of Revenue's computer operations. Peat, Marwick and Mitchell bid 17860. Richard Murphy will review Midwest's bid before a decision. Electronic Data Preparation Corp. of Bradenton, Florida offered 1 982000 for year one and 2494000 for year two.

Soviet taxes and prices surprise visiting governors

U S governors led by Gov Marvin Mandel tour the Soviet Union and report high hidden taxes in consumer prices and a 13 percent graduate income tax. Prices for shoes suit and household goods appear high relative to Soviet salaries, with vodka cheap but costs for cars and services high.
