Start of Subversive Activities Control Board Sessions

Washington November AP The Subversive Activities Control Board convened to organize its duties under the Internal Security Act. It will hear cases on whether groups labeled Communist action or Communist front must register with the Justice Department and reveal activities and funding. The board's first task includes hearings on a petition to register the Communist Party. Seth W. Richardson was named chair with Bolitha J. Laws to administer the meeting at noon.

Loyalty Review Board to Take Oaths in Courtroom

Puerto Rican political leaders and a new board convene for oaths of office amid lack of a home. Richardson plans to resign today as chairman of the federal Employees' Royalty Review Board to assume new duties and coordinate with the control board on organization and financing. The Loyalty Review board, empowered to name its own presiding officer, comprises 24 citizens and will meet again in early January.

LSU Law School Opens Negro Classes for First Time

Roy Wilson, a 30 year old with a Grambling College BSc, enrolled as LSU law student after a federal court ordered the university to admit qualified Black students. Dean Henry George McMahon said the university must follow the decree as Wilson planned to attend his first class. The event marks LSU's 90 year history with integration in law courses.

Foreign Policy Tops of Pair of Campaign Talks

In Missouri campaign stops, Sen. Edward Martin defends Republican foreign policy, blaming Truman for the Korean War and communism in Asia while Democrat Thomas C. Truman to Speak in St Louis End Campaign Swing

President Truman will close the Missouri Democratic campaign with a St Louis speech at Kiel Auditorium. He asks what would happen if Senator Donnell’s views became national policy in 1951, with Hennings joining him on stage as his platform partner. The Diet in Japan consists of two houses.

New Trial Motion Set for Monday in Wainwright Case

Branche Wainwright seeks a new trial on felonious assault charges against 65 year old Russellville farmer Yoe Heninger. Circuit Judge Sam C. Blair will hear the motion Monday morning. Wainwright was previously convicted twice by juries and sentenced to two years in the state penitentiary.

Prosecution Highlights Two Convictions and Hung Jury

Prosecuting Attorney James T. Riley secured the first conviction on March 14 and the second on Oct. 4. William DeWayne Brown, charged with aiding Wain Wright in an assault, underwent trial in Fayette under a change of venue last Thursday but the proceeding ended with a hung jury the next day.

Halloween Celebrant Swallows Noise Maker

Gail Seymour 11 of West Sand Lake swallowed a noisy horn while tooting in a Halloween parade near Troy. She was admitted to St. Mary's Hospital for treatment after the incident.
