Missouri Senate OKs Graduation Mining Measure to Blair

The Missouri Senate approved a modernization of pick and shovel mining laws 31 to 1 after adopting House changes, sending the bill to the governor. Coal mining stays under existing laws. Muddy Missouri streams and lakes after recent rains

Recent rains left Missouri streams and lakes muddy or dingy affecting fishing. Bulls Shoals and Taneycomo show clearwater pockets with mixed bites. Lake of the Ozarks has muddy coves. Three Soldiers Charged In Southeast Missouri Bank Robbery

The 3 soldiers held up a bank yesterday, ordering five employees to the vault. They stole available cash and fled in a stolen car, later found abandoned a few miles away. The staff freed themselves with a screwdriver as police noted the long gap since the town’s last robbery.

Bridge theft nets 3 tons of steel in Pike County

A 230 foot bridge in Pike County was cut into about three tons of high grade steel by a thief with a cutting torch. Sheriff Wilmer Whitehead said the loss was discovered by a coal miner Wednesday before travelers could use the unbridged stream.

Kansas City Crime Report Referred to Prosecutor and Board

Gov James T Blair said he referred a report of rising crime and vice in Kansas City to Jackson County prosecutor William A Collett and to the Kansas City Police Board. A Jackson County grand jury was impaneled to examine crime conditions as the report came from Atty Gen John M Dalton via Rep W M Harlow. Judge John R James instructed the grand jury to probe law enforcement, burglaries, robberies, brutality in the jail, and discharges that lead to further crime, noting no organized crime but continued activity by discharged convicts.

Faint Triggers Fire Rescue in Downtown Drugstore

A woman fainted in a downtown drugstore in Columbus. A passerby called the fire department, which dispatched pumpers and a hook and ladder while police took the woman to a hospital by ambulance.
