Interesting phases of Commencement Week for the junior college and senior high school graduates. Presentation of 60 hour certificates at commencement exercises tomorrow night to James and Opel Howard marks the first time a man and wife take part in graduating ceremonies here and the first degrees conferred by the college upon a married couple. R L Gwinn, who gave the scripture and benediction at the baccalaureate, ends his nineteenth year with the high schools. He has taught since 1888 and came from Windsor Missouri to join the local system. He served as principal of the old Jefferson City High School for four and a half years, the longest tenure since 1900. He is now head of the history department. A graduating exercise without Miss Daisy Seather waving her baton would seem like Hamlet without the title role. Miss Seather, among the oldest staff, has directed music programs for baccalaureate and commencement for over 12 years and has witnessed 15 graduating classes. Rosemary Wickham will receive a certificate tomorrow night and holds two diplomas, one from her great grandmother. In a worn frame is parchment from Mount Holyoke Female Seminary dated 1840 for completing the course with a diploma signed by Mary Lyon.

Sparrow Saves Life of Its Mate
In Springfield on May 22 Perry Sparrow dangled with a noose around his neck near a nest as Mrs Sparrow pecked at the twine. Elks Club members watched from a second story window. After 11 to 15 minutes Mrs Sparrow freed the bird and he dropped to a ledge. He later pulled himself together and limped home.
