Ernest Peck a 33 year old farmer was shot by an assassin armed with a rifle near his father's Rogersville area farm. His body lay beside a gate as his team waited. Webster County authorities pursue a feud theory with a coroner's inquest slated this afternoon. no arrests reported.

At the Methodist Episcopal Church South conference in Dallas, delegates voted 257 to 124 to keep Bishop James Cannon of Washington, DC, on the Board of Temperance and Social Service, rejecting substitution by Bishop A Frank Smith of Houston. The discussion featured remarks by Josephus Daniels and Charles M Hay defending Cannon and opposing the substitution.
St Louis May 22 AP Kenneth Barnard president of the affiliated Better Business Bureau said he was astounded by Kansas City Bureau’s vote to retain George Husser after his dismissal. He reported the move to the national board and promised a further announcement. Husser allegedly accepted a $950 contribution from W H Young & Co Inc before the decision.
Pope Pius convened a semi public consistory to review canonization candidates including the Canadian martyrs. Twenty Cardinals and other high church officials voted yes as the Pope urged prayers for divine guidance and unity of sentiment.

Judge Barton H. Boyer of Farmington, 63, was removed from the Twenty seventh Judicial Circuit by Governor Caulfield for mental and physical incapacity. J. N. Threlkeld named special judge to keep the May term moving. Evidence from doctors and the prosecutor cited relapse and incapacity. Boyer collapsed in court and has been on leave since last year. The panel notes the term could be adjourned if court fails to sit.
Mrs. R. L. Works of Brownsville Texas, 25, was hospitalized in Dallas after swallowing a liquid disinfectant in the hotel suite of R. B. Creager. Creager said she joined a party at dinner, grew indisposed, and later, with others, believed she gargled with the disinfectant by mistake. A bottle was found thrown from a window. Works had come to Dallas with two other women for a church convention.
Judge Frank E. Atwood delivered the alumni address at William Jewell College commencement. The college conferred the LL D degree upon him during the exercises. Miss Bla Dréinert of Kansas City, formerly Jefferson City, will spend the weekend here visiting friends, including Miss Metal Johannaber.
