Eldenites Vote May 26 On Street And Sewer Bonds

Elden citizens will vote May 26 on two bond issues totaling 176 008 for sewer improvements 366 000 and street paving 90 000. Tax rate would rise to 1 40 per 100 assessed from 1 25 if approved. State health order requires one year to complete upgrades. Street paving would use 2 to 3 inch asphalt lasting 70 to 23 years at 60 cents per front foot. Mayor urges turnout and hand bills to inform voters.

Fire Lays Waste Canadian Town in Cabano Quebec

A massive blaze engulfed Cabano Quebec destroying most of the lumber and business districts. About 1,500 residents homeless after a fire sparked by a plant in a milk house raged more than six hours. No casualties reported. Firefighters contained the flames by nightfall with military guards securing looting.
