Washington May 7 The national debt rose beyond the 35 026 000 000 limit set by President Roosevelt. Treasury data show the debt at 35 039 996 835 40 on May 5, up 52 052 439 06 from the prior day, driven by a 50 million weekly borrowing and the gold sterilization program. Roosevelt had predicted the year would end near 35 026 000 000 and expected it to stay near that level, with the current borrowing plan implying further increases beyond the limit.
Delegates from Texas Oklahoma New Mexico Colorado and Missouri face a motion to back President Roosevelt's Supreme Court plan but a vote was blocked on the floor. Mrs May W Dewson and Mrs Annie Dickie Oleson urged action saying women's role is vital to the party.

Three WPA employees John Buxton age 45 Jesse Bledsoe 40 and Clifford Clayton 26 were indicted by a federal grand jury and held in Buchanan county jail in default of 1000 bond. A former district WPA director also indicted remains at large. Twenty WPA workers were subpoenaed to testify next week.
Washington officials warned that a Cullen bill could raise government costs by expanding refunds of illegal Agricultural Adjustment Act levies. Treasury experts expect under 10 percent of the over one billion dollars collected would be returned, while a December filing extension could boost refunds if the Supreme Court case favors claimants. Senators questioned the push as a political maneuver amid Roosevelt budget pressures.
