Funds Obtained Army Veterans Depart For Reunion in Moscow

Nine Army veterans from Paris depart for Moscow and back for a reunion set for May 3. The group calling itself the Wes American Veterans of the Elbe met Russian soldiers in 1945 near the Elbe River. Funds for round trips came from a television appeal and a Cincinnati group says the effort aims to plant a seed of brotherhood and help end the cold war.

St Louis Pilot Killed as Two Jets Collide Near Hoover Dam

At Nellis Air Base Nevada a 24 year old St Louis pilot died in a collision of two Fei Sabrejets southeast of Hoover Dam. Lt George F W Ramming of St Louis Missouri died. Lt Michael G Filliman, an instructor, parachuted to safety and was hospitalized with a broken hip after the training crash. Both pilots were on training missions.

Tax plan would not solve state revenue problem

A House Committee proposal to raise state income tax and earmark funds for public schools would not address the state's overall revenue problem or add school revenues before the 1958 school year. The Missouri Public Expenditure Survey found earmarking for schools would undermine the foundation program's budget need basis, and warned against tying taxes to a single sector.

Pilot Hurt In Jet Trainer Crash At Grandview Base

U S Captain Ritch ell Dalekan of Sioux City Iowa was listed in serious condition after his T32 jet trainer crashed near Grandview Air Force Base yesterday. He suffered a severe head injury and burns. crash crew rescued him. Capt. Dricken of the Sixteenth Fighter Interceptor Squadron was on a routine mission.

Saint Louisan sentenced to six years in prison

A Saint Louisan, G. Cluck, once a central figure in a dispute before the Missouri Supreme Court, received a six year term for first degree robbery. Circuit Judge E. McLaughlin pronounced the sentence after the high court reduced the original charge from assault with intent to rob. Dowd argued the charge could be lowered. the court ordered no further action.

Lincoln Ceremony Set By Thomas Hart Benton

Thomas Watt Benton of Kansas City, famed for mural work, will visit May 15 for the dedication and unveiling of his Abraham Lincoln painting at Lincoln University. The work, commissioned by the university, will portray the war president and Civil War era figures and Benton will donate it. Announcement came from James D. Parks, Lincoln University art chair. Also notes that modern cars average about 125000 miles in lifetime, a shift from older expectations.

Officers to Study Meter Operations in St Louis

Jefferson City police will spend two days in St Louis next week studying radar speed meter operations. The trip names Traffic Sergeant Omer Higgins Everett Snodgrass Carl Moriteer Freeman Farmer E M Creed Arthur Urucks Harold Woorland and Lloyd Cordes. Radar equipment was authorized by the City Council weeks ago and delivery completed recently. Operation awaits FCC license clearance before use.

City Budget Set At 51 Million For St Louis

City Comptroller Milton Carpenter announced a 51 475 000 operating budget for municipal departments for the new fiscal year starting April 12. If the Board of Aldermen approves, it would become the largest in the city’s history, about 146 million more than last year’s appropriation and 3 6 million more than actual spending.

Small Baby Victim Named in Kansas City Fire

A fatal Kansas City apartment fire claimed the life of an eight to nine month old girl named Girthree Henderson. Her brothers Roy and Robert Henderson, ages nine and four, were injured. Their mother, Sadie Bell Henderson, was away. Fifteen residents evacuated as firefighters estimated damage at 2,500 dollars.
