Ernest Russell Found Guilty of Manslaughter in Missouri
A Miller County Circuit Court jury convicted Ernest L. Russell 35 of manslaughter in the fatal incident at the home of Eliza Hawkins near Olean after a fight in which Russell was knocked down. He received three months bail and a $100 fine. Russell claimed self defense and that Dillman 52 died of a heart attack, not the gunshot. The verdict was delivered around 11 p.m. Judge Nike G Sevier presided. Prosecutor R P Stone led for the state with defense by W C Irwin and Hugh Atwell.
