A sprawling roster lists churches in the area with service times, Sunday schools, and Lent observances. It names Lutheran, Catholic, Episcopal, Baptist, Methodist, and other denominations along with pastors, masses, and midweek devotions spanning Parkview to Dix Road.
The Park College Concert Choir, about 40 voices under James Merrill, will perform Sunday at First Presbyterian Church Madison and McCarty Streets. The event includes a pre-concert supper with church youth, overnight hosting by members, and a Rotary Club appearance.
Circuit Judge Waldo C. Mayfield directed verdicts of acquittal for Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Maynard in a 1952 manslaughter case involving their 11 month old twin daughter Sharon. The judge said the evidence failed to prove a direct link between the child's brain hemorrhage and parental negligence. Madison reports a three day strike by AFL teachers protesting job abolition with ongoing picket lines at six public schools. About 2,700 students have been on vacation. Meetings planned between the school board and union leaders, with cross picket line access for janitors to inspect school conditions.
