Brewery President Griesedieck Sr. Dies in St Louis

Edward J. Griesedieck Sr., 59, president of Griesedieck Bros. Brewery Co., died at St. John's Hospital after heart trouble. He led the firm since 1942 after a brother’s death and hailed from a long St. Louis brewing family. Survived by widow, a daughter, four sons, and a sister. Funeral set for Wednesday.

Open Murder Trial In Nodaway County

Clif ford Howard Cary, a 32 year old handyman from Parnell Mo is on trial in Nodaway County Circuit Court for first degree murder in the December 13 shotgun killing of Drexel G Chitty 35 of Drexel. Cary says Chitty owed about 190 in back wages. He allegedly shot Chitty on Parnell Street then fired a warning shot through a pool hall window. The weapon jammed and Cary was disarmed by two bystanders. A 12 member jury was seated after a brief selection. Prosecutor Ray Eckles plans to prove premeditation and did not question jurors about capital punishment.
