Hoover Opposes Chair for Joint Chiefs of Staff

Senators End Long Debate Repeal of Madison Labor Law

The Missouri Senate debated a repeal amid a filibuster and strong party lines. Speaker for repeal cited union support of about 16,000 members after numerous meetings. Opposing senator David Horn argued the push came from a small labor leadership group not reflecting public sentiment. After six hours, no productive discussion emerged, and the repeal vote split along party lines as two Democrats opposed and two Republicans supported. The session risked delaying adjournment for summer as several key bills, including appropriations, remained to be decided.
