97 Percent Lawyer Becomes Minister in Jefferson City
On weekdays Michael Clay Smith, Monroe County prosecuting attorney, is a lawyer and judge of civic life. On Sundays he serves as an Episcopal priest, a path that began after he pursued journalism and law, married Peggy Hancock, moved to Union, and later was ordained last February. He studied philosophy at Roanoke College and led the All Saints Episcopal Church as a lay minister before ordination.
