West Virginia Joins Parade of Wet States in Repeal Vote

Charleston West Virginia became one of sixteen states voting for repeal of Prohibition, with 185,344 for repeal and 106,936 against from 1,710 of 2,348 precincts, amid light turnout and regional expectations that the 21st Amendment repeal may spread. California joined in, with 718,723 for repeal to 228,083 against from 6,312 of 9,447 precincts, and voters backed a pari mutuel betting proposal.

Mrs J H Slager and Fred Levy of Montgomery Alabama are world bridge Olympic champions. The National Bridge Association said their north-south team had the best score in a worldwide May 1 contest with over 100000 players. Leo D Graine and J Frederic Benedict of Sherburne New York tied with Otto Krefting and Isak Neilsen of Oslo for the International Championship of East West pairs. Mr and Mrs J Matt Johnson of Cottonwood Idaho won the United States north-south title. East-west honors went to William Savery Jr and Stanley Jaloff of Seattle.

Harriman Trial Date Set After Denied Delay Plea

New York June 28 AP Judge William Handy rejected a defense request for a one year delay and fixed July 8 for the trial of Joseph W. Harriman former head of Harriman National Bank and Trust Company. Harriman is indicted for causing false entries in the bank's ledgers. Albert M. Austin, a former fee president, is mentioned in the case.

Bank accused in delay inquiry to face trial in Harriman case

A bank defendant accused of siding with sub committee members in a delay in a high profile case will stand trial alongside Harriman.
