Parcel Post Rate Increase Asked

Postmaster General Donaldson asked the Interstate Commerce Commission for another general advance in parcel post rates. The petition gives no specific amount, stating only that fourth class mail service is not paying its way despite a 25 percent rate increase granted last year. Officials say the higher rates since Oct 1 have not made parcel post self sustaining due to postage increases and higher rail carriage costs. In 1885 the Army tried camel trains in New Mexico but the rocky terrain ruined their feet.
