Washington June 27 AP flood waters ravaged the lower Mississippi valley as appropriations totaling 19 million 46 thousand 500 were recommended for flood control and river improvement in the Missouri basin and upper Mississippi. The measure covers the Garrison reservoir to St Louis corridor with 11.875 million for flood work and 7.371 million for channel improvements plus 271 500 near Minneapolis for the Mississippi segment. The House committee said 20.121 million would be available next fiscal year with 1.074 million unspent. Plans include Clearwater reservoir near Poplar Bluff 2 million, 1.8 million for North Kansas City flood protection and 300 000 for Chariton River work. Leaders from Kansas City and Missouri pressed for funds to continue projects including levees flood walls and a highway bridge in Liberty Bend.

Dr. Cotton Named To Head Kansas Vocation School
Dr. Robert G. Cotton of Jefferson City Missouri has been elected president of the Kansas Vocational School at Topeka by the state board of regents. He will succeed Herman T Jones whose resignation is effective July 1. Cotton, 37, born in Kansas City Kansas, holds degrees from Hampton Institute Kansas State Teachers College Pittsburg and Ohio State University. He is the first Negro to receive the MS at Pittsburg and is currently director of the mechanics arts department at Lincoln University in Jefferson City.

Girl Injured Slightly In Fall From City Bus
Miss Nancy Steen of 810 West High Street suffered painful bruises after slipping on a city bus step while alighting at Pine and High Street. She was taken by ambulance to St Mary's hospital for emergency treatment and examination before returning home. A wage increase of seven cents per hour plus a pension plan replaces six paid holidays.
