Illinois Youth Chooses Wrong Opponent in Drag Race

Belleville resident James Tokrsson, 23, faced 7 year old Sammy Flood in a reckless driving incident on the edge of East St. Louis. Flood, the deputy sheriff’s son, rode in the front seat as Tokrsson sped up to 70 mph. Tokrsson was fined 100 dollars, with 30 days suspended. A separate report notes a St Louis woman died after injuries from a Saturday incident in St Louis County Hospital.

Illinois Mechanics Approve New Contract

About 650 St. Clair and Madison County auto mechanics and body men approved a two year contract with two wage increases. The agreement, reached with the St. Clair and Madison County Automotive Dealers Assn, includes a 32 cent hourly raise retroactive to June 1 and a further 10 cent raise on June 1 next year. Also provides two weeks vacation leave and flat-rate work. Base rates were 2.10 for mechanics and 2.20 for body men.

Maplewood Police Inspector Resigns in Interference Claim

Sy Louis an Hamid O Webb resigned as Maplewood police inspector charging interference by a city official. Mayor Sterling P Davidson Jr said Webb refused to name the officer. Webb, a 20 year St. Louis officer, led Maplewood since December 1954.
