Church Council Pushes for Strong Public Accommodations Law
Dr. Stanley I. Stuber of the Missouri Council of Churches says the group will push for a full strength public accommodations bill in the legislature. The measure to outlaw racial discrimination in hotels motels and restaurants has cleared the House and moves before the Senate committee next week. The House amendments exclude restaurants and taverns and the council opposes partial provisions that leave islands of segregation. Stuber notes they will not seek a last minute amendment but press for the strongest possible bill this session.
