Farm roundup More grazing needed
A Forest Service study says 12 billion acres across the contiguous U S are suitable for grazing, with 835 million acres used in 1970. Demand growth could push forage needs to 320 million animal unit months by century's end, while public land use balances wood, water, wildlife, and recreation. The report notes 69 percent of forest range is non-federal, producing 85 percent of grazing. Also, U S farm labor fell three percent to 4,764,000 weekly May 2026, with 1,273,500 hired workers amid wet weather and late spring work.

English Channel tunnel costs rise to billions
The British French plan for a 37 mile undersea rail tunnel linking London and Paris faces a 2.125 billion dollar price tag with a 1980 target to operate twin tubes. Proponents say faster travel and trade justify the risk while critics warn of terrorist targets and higher future costs.
