Ike Enters Hospital After Becoming Ill

President Eisenhower was taken to Walter Reed Hospital with what aides described as an upset stomach and no heart trouble. Doctor Francis Pruitt and Dr. Snyder examined him. he received intravenous dextrose and remained in the presidential suite ascabinet and Senate meetings were postponed and plans shifted to Monday.

Catchall Fund Bill Cut Includes School Foundation Plan

The measure directs 340 009 for local election expenses 54 298 for publishing constitutional amendments and 340 000 for unspecified law work. It lists 75 million for a building bond, 24 824 for amendment publication costs, 250 000 for regular session costs, 60 900 for Algoa Intermediate Reformatory salaries 14 032 for Corrections Director Carder, 109 545 for Workmen's Compensation setup in Joplin, 1055 for circuit court reporters, 285 000 for a commission, 6 000 for mileage of special session legislators and 132 000 for special session costs. Initial marketing cost for 13 million building bonds 59 000 plus 2 500 for medium security prison site commission. Governor may finish work today or Monday on 12 bill allocating 60 million to state colleges and universities.

Jefferson City Sewage Plan Demanded by Health Division

The Division of Health urges the city to adopt a comprehensive sewage works improvements plan before approving further extensions to the Jefferson City sewer system. Enclosed are regulations on installation and operation and an opinion on legality and authority. The City Council funds a partial resurvey by a Chamber of Commerce committee, allotting $4,250 under Fowler’s direction. A note mentions soil around the Dead Sea being too salty to till until washed.

Disaster Area Not Warranted in State

Washington D C officials declined to designate 11 northwestern Missouri counties as a drought disaster area despite a request from Governor Phil Donnelly. President Eisenhower’s assistant cited a survey by Agriculture and Civil Defense investigators. Governor Donnelly said he would await USDA emergency drought help before deciding next steps as rains offered only partial relief to the region.

Legion Barbecue Draws 250 Attendees At McClung Park

About 250 persons attended the annual American Legion barbecue at McClung Park last night with excellent weather. Robert E. B. Watsch Jr. chaired the arrangements as Rascoe Enloe coordinated transportation. Eight Missouri councils planned sight seeing tours for troops attending the national jamboree in Valley Forge. Two full troops from the Lake of the Ozarks council were authorized to attend. Henry Lampley, 32, escaped from the St. Louis City Workhouse after two days remaining on a seven month auto theft sentence, using a stepladder to climb a 10 foot wall.

Union Electric seeks approval to build power line to Cape Girardeau

Union Electric asks permission to construct a 60 cycle 138000 volt transmission line from Rivermines substation in St Francois County to Fredericktown and Cape Girardeau Missouri to supply a new substation. The filing also requests authority to issue and sell 40 million dollars of first mortgage bonds to fund expansion and retire debt.

Advisory Board Studies Merit Changes Requested by Union

The State Personnel Advisory Board considered union demands from the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employes representing workers in health welfare and penal facilities. The proposal calls for a five day 40 hour work week for merit system staff with over time pay and semiannual merit increases subject to written exceptions, plus vacation and sick leave adjustments and copies of service ratings. Union reps Ames of St Louis and Burns of Jefferson City spoke alongside many employer representatives and authorities.
