Paris June 8 One hundred thousand coal miners struck in the north while a large wave of jubilant workers awaited orders to resume work after a government backed victory. The government reported a 40 hour week and pay increases, with broader legislation to nationalize war industries and improve conditions across sectors.
Landon forces and aides pressed platform planning as fights loomed over a minimum wage constitutional amendment and gold standard stance. Key senators Borah Vandenberg Dickinson opposed hasty amendments while Hoover backed the wage plank, amid broader debates on farm relief tariffs and unemployment relief.
Dr Francis E Townsend announced plans to mobilize 8 000 old age pension clubs to back a national campaign aiming to elect a Townsend backed congress. He spoke at a Townsend youth meeting in Cleveland on the eve of the Republican convention and outlined endorsements in each district for a plan paying 200 a month to all over 60. Washington June 8 The steel leader John L Lewis pushed to transform the steel industry into an organized labor stronghold after being denied AFL backing for the industrial method of unionization. He claimed the Amalgamated Association joined his committee, while William Green of the AFL accused him of thwarting steel solidarity.
Aurora, Mo on June 8 AP H A Gorrell a South American opera singer visited Aurora and four Jerseys two cows and four bulls left their Ozark home for the Brassy plateaus of Ecuador. Gorrell praised the stock’s prestige and L A Borda ordered the herd from W N Burney to start a dairy business in the southern nation seeking milk cows to replace wild sources. Local breeders see potential export boost to export stock.
In Tonawanda New York a temporary truce ends clashes between striking Remington Rand workers and officials. James H. Rand Jr. announced willingness to meet a worker committee and arbitrate. Company to remove fall strike breakers as part of agreement. several injured and six arrested during disorder.

Marietta workers at Remington Rand vote to return after a two week strike. 125 employees receive one week paid vacation and a $15 bonus under plant superintendent Walker Be Gerhart. Norwood plant remains closed. Harvey E. Church named Stockton postmaster succeeding E. W. Bright. term ends June 23.
