Domestics United aims to raise Charlotte wages
In Charlotte about 6,000 domestics toil for roughly $1 a day hour with bus rides and meals. Domestics United DU, backed by an $8,000 NC Fund grant, offers a training program and placement efforts for 600 members though whites are not yet members. The group seeks better pay and recognizes its role as a profession.
