Flood Control Costs Seen For Major Plan
Major General Lyle Brown of the Army Engineers told the House flood control committee that reservoirs may be built to curb high water but would be costly and only partly effective. He cited an estimated 1.2 billion dollars for Tennessee River reservoirs and discussed Missouri and other western tributaries. Brown said downstream impact would occur but farther down effects would be limited by other tributaries and rain. He noted flood control projects will cost millions and expected Mississippi basin water diversion to the Gulf of Mexico could be constructed in time.

Three Insurance Premium Rates Cut in Missouri
Missouri today sees a 20 percent reduction in fire, lightning, wind and hail insurance premiums after Minnesota Fire Insurance Co. and its Missouri agent R. W. Freysching secured the lower schedule. State Superintendent J. B. Thompson had denied a requested 1623 percent increase by 219 stock companies, while 157 firms were enjoined from blocking a higher rate. St Louis June 5 AP Melvin M Butts operator of the signal tower at Lindell Union Boulevard grade crossing was held for grand jury action on criminal carelessness after a coroner's inquest found the gates were prematurely opened. Bond set at 5000. Witnesses said the gate rose before the inbound Bashaw passenger train reached the crossing allowing Edward E Schnittker to be killed.
