Astronaut Schweickart welcomed by Alsace relatives

Official claims Columbus police on gamblers' payroll

Federal officials allege gamblers in Columbus Ohio paid nearly all of the city vice squad and their payroll. Assistant Attorney General Wilson testified before a Senate subcommittee that low level officers were said to receive 250 dollars monthly while superiors earned up to 3500 dollars. Wilson tied the charges to a pattern of police corruption in major cities and urged federal action to curb conspiracy to obstruct gambling enforcement. Columbus officials denied direct corruption and promised action if wrongdoing is found.

Trial on Molestation Charge in Cole County Court

Steven Lee Burns, 705 Edmonds Sr., stood trial today in Cole County Circuit Court for allegedly molesting an 11 year old girl at the First Christian Church during a Girl Scout meeting last November. Stalin era rebirth attacked at international Communist conference

As delegates pour into Moscow for a Kremlin conference a small group of Russian intellectuals circulated a petition urging an end to a perceived revival of Stalin era terror. They denounced arrests of Grigorenko and Yukhimovich and warned the malevolent shadow of Stalin must not darken the future. Delegates from 49 foreign countries arrived, including five Communist leaders, while several key parties boycott the event. Cuba sent observers as doubts rose over Moscow’s ability to steer the movement and present itself as a model of true communism.

Boosters to Meet to Discuss Imperialism Issue

Disagreements arose over broader topics including Chinese Soviet guidelines and Communist policies, with the conference aiming to approve a watered-down agenda and elect officers.

Lincoln's Summer Registration Slated at Lincoln University

Lincoln University schedules summer session registration for the eight week program at Mlason gymnasium. Dr Milton G Hardiman, summer program director, announces 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday with a lunch break 12 to 1 15 p.m. He expects enrollment to top last year 1100 students. Missouri residents pay 50 dollars if signed for six or more credits. Nonstudents pay 1 per credit hour.
