Alcohol Revealed In Death Majority In NYC 1957 Drivers
New York Police Department reports show medical analyses found alcohol in the systems of 38 of 69 drivers killed in or dying within 24 hours of motor vehicle accidents in New York City in 1957. Alcohol levels ranged from 0.10 to 0.49 percent, with 0.19 percent as relevant evidence and 0.15 percent as prima facie intoxication. The drinking drivers caused two pedestrian deaths, five car passenger deaths, and injuries to 29 others. Autopsies were performed only on those who died within 24 hours. post 24 hour deaths were excluded.
