Four Die and Many Survive as SAS DC-8 Crashes at Sea

A Scandinavian Airlines DC-8 with 45 aboard crashed into pacific waters eight miles off Los Angeles International Airport after a landing gear problem. Rescue teams pulled survivors from the waves and eight were injured while four were confirmed dead. Coast Guard, fire and private boats aided in the hours long salvage with divers inspecting the fuselage and rescuers rushing victims to Santa Monica Hospital.

Modern Casey Jones opens new era in rail travel

The Penn Central Railroad and the U S Department of Transportation will debut the Metroliner bullet train running 226 miles between Washington and New York in about three hours. Catholic diocese votes to close 54 schools without state aid
