Eldon Library Rejects Independent Service Link

The Eldon Phulie Library will not merge with Miller County library services and will remain part of the Thomas Jefferson regional system serving Maries Osage and Cole counties. Eldon’s two mill tax base funds about $8009 yearly. the move affects Eldon residents while Miller County outside Eldon remains served by the four-county system.

Baker and Williams tied to 1962 loan and hidden transmitter

Authority advances urban renewal projects and nurseries

The agency approved eight homes in year one and ten annually thereafter under a continuing plan. It refunded Distler 4000 for a good faith deposit and asked him to finish a Roland Drive house to the authority’s satisfaction. A concrete Miller proposal is sought for future contracting. Campus View's excess grants totaling 142,115 will be moved to the Progress Project. Two new day care nurseries were outlined, including Elizabeth Street for Morris Edmonds residents and a Campus View nursery. A settlement with General Insurance Co. of America fining the Piez Lewis contract for 52,678 in damages was approved as the Lewis firm no longer operates.

Unfair practices case opens against McGraw-Edison plants

Parcel post rate changes to start January 15 1971

Postmaster C Blair announced parcel post changes effective January 15 1971 under the 1966 law signed by President Johnson. ZIP Code use and new parcel post zones will ease mailing, with average rate increases about ten cents per parcel and further size and weight upgrades for packages mailed from first class offices including Jefferson City.

Chambers to Acquire Von Hoffmann Building in City Plan

The Chamber of Commerce will take title to the current Von Hoffmann building on January 16 as plans for a new 250000 square foot facility proceed. Construction may begin in spring with possible year end move, while the older building will be leased to tenants. City Council actions will follow the bond election, including a lease authorization. Meanwhile ZIP code based parcel rates replace old zone methods, raising post office revenue and simplifying distance-based charges.

Moberly Wins Major Burridge Award At Capital Toastmasters

Jack Moberly was named winner of the Major Burridge award at Capital Toastmasters Club. He gave his first speech outlining his Metime experiences before the local club. Dennis D. Pigg received the Bill Tellman Award for most Burridge trophy wins in 1966. Other speakers included Kembie S. Tinsley Clifford Halferty and George J. Evkman.

In Lee's Summit Missouri a plan to permit liquor by the drink failed by a two to one margin. The tally was 622 in favor and 1,447 against.
