The McGraw-Edison Co. lost about 75 pounds of copper shavings valued at $80 to thieves. Police report the copper was taken from a truck at a loading dock.
Billy Schaefferkoetter, 19, of Owensville is reported in serious condition today at a Jefferson City hospital. He was involved in the Tuesday night crash which took them. The theft was discovered at the site of 16-year-old Douglas Hallandsworth, also of Owensville, the copper was taken during the weekend.
Boone County's first consciously apportioned grand jury in 16 years began its second day in Columbia. Judge John Cave charged the panel to study county buildings and offices, liquor and cigarette sales to minors, with authority to pursue felonies on prosecutor Frank Conley's suggestion, including narcotics issues in Boone County. Sheriff Bud Elkins chose the jurors for the Blue Ribbon body.
Marvin D. Blackford, 72, of Columbia, was seriously injured in a Boone County accident at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. 63 at Route F after Ira E. Roberts, 80, of Clark Mo., pulled into Blackford’s path. Blackford sustained internal and head injuries and a fractured leg. Roberts had lacerations.
Washington AP reports the Civil Service Commission announced six applicants for the Fredericktown Missouri postmaster position. The candidates are Ivan Q. Barnhart Earl A. Bol linger William T Duff Norman E Tucker Jasper R Murray and Joe K Swisher.
Governor Warren Hearnes outlines requests for toll road legislation, a $10 million rise in the School Foundation Program, state funded kindergartens, and expanded nursing home payments. He backs welfare liberalization, shared time education, and a department of community affairs while seeking constitutional bond voting by simple majority.
