Los Angeles reports aviators face survivability fears as planes push speeds toward 800 to 900 miles an hour. The Navy’s Bureau of Aeronautics develops an ejectable insulated cockpit capsule designed to be hurled from aircraft in emergencies, protecting occupants from extreme cold and vacuum.
Fifty child welfare workers and supervisors from district and local Welfare offices will meet at the Missouri hotel to discuss protective services for homeless, dependent and neglected children and youth at risk of delinquency. Early churchgoers at St Peter's encountered rising water at the Broad way High street crossing after a water main on the Capitol grounds southwest corner burst in the night. Police logged the break at 1 20 a m. Officials say the main is state owned while Fred Appleton calls the leak minor and says repairs are underway.
Preliminary tests at the Naval Ordnance Test Station in Yokern California indicate a capsule survival pod is nearly ready. The system uses a release lever to free the capsule, jet propulsion to detach it, three stabilizing fins to prevent tumbling, and dual parachutes to deploy a main chute. Water landings trigger a coating and the pod includes survival gear and provisions.
Piedmont February 22 AP Missouri Pacific passenger train No 8 derailed when a rock slide in a cut south of Gads Hill collided with the trailing units. No injuries reported though the diesel locomotive and two baggage cars were derailed. Other Missouri Pacific trains between Poplar Bluff and St Louis were rerouted via Belmont and Cairo branches from Bismarck to Poplar Bluff.
The Charleston, once a 1920s dance step, is revived in Hollywood with a Sunset Strip night event packing in crowds.
