Augusta report says Gov. Jimmy Carter endorses a statewide boycott of Georgia schools as a legitimate protest against court ordered busing aimed at racial balance in classrooms. Parents here are keeping watch as action develops.
Gov. Jimmy Carter, a moderate on race issues, voiced support for a statewide school boycott only if the Georgia Legislature rejects a proposed constitutional amendment against busing to achieve racial balance. He cited Augusta resistance to a federal order on busing as evidence the anti-busing amendment is needed. Attendance rose in Richmond County as 20,322 students stayed home the day before, about 59 percent of the county’s enrollment.
Richard G. Kleindienst appears certain to win Senate confirmation as attorney general despite some liberal Republican and Democratic critics. The Judiciary Committee begins hearings next Tuesday with support from conservatives and some reservations from Hart Bayh and Harris who oppose on civil liberties grounds and surveillance stances.
Industrial inspection chief G B Craven defends his division against bribery charges raised by Rep Jewell Kennedy during debate on a pay raise for inspectors. Kennedy said she heard of under the table payments. Craven called the charges gutter politics and urged evidence or an apology if none exists.
Duane E. Schreimann of 311 Tyler Street was elected a charter member of Phi Eta Sigma at Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Alan Sake reimann.
The Senate Judiciary Committee approved a nine member coordinating board for state colleges and universities and a plan to run all agencies under ten departments. The action follows earlier House support and includes an Office of Administration under the governor. Opposition came from Senators Cason Howard and Esley. Republican Bus King urged cross party support for reform. The education and conservation measures faced modifications in committee.
Governmental Reorganization commission watered down a nine member top board and limited powers to set admissions and budgets while a House panel moved to merge park and outdoor agencies into a revamped Department of Conservation. Critics blamed University of Missouri officials for lobbying efforts that allegedly caused the defeat of the higher education coordinating board.
Jefferson City Park Board accepted low bids for fencing and backstop materials for Binder Park ballfield, pool chemicals, and greens care. DeLong's Inc. won fencing at 2197.80, McKesson Chemical Co. won pool chemicals at 1902.80, Turf Equipment Inc. won greens care at 1151.76. Others bid higher.

A three day forecast for Missouri shows cool Friday with lows around 202 and highs in the 40s. A warming trend continues through Saturday and Sunday with a high Sunday reaching the 60s and little or no precipitation expected.
BT. JAMES Missouri AP reports Calvin C. Beckemeyer 46 of Carlyle Illinois was killed Tuesday when his transport truck lost its left rear dual wheels, ran off Missouri 68, overturned an embankment about five miles south of St. James.
The Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce board rejects a proposed one cent per boule tax on soft drinks. Harold W. Westhues, the chamber president, calls the tax discriminatory against one customer class and industry and argues it is not sound business or governance practice.
