Gilfred Gibson surrendered as two alleged Slayers were held. Officers say the Spurlocks were moved to another county amid the investigation.

Police disclosed that Ralph Foster and Charles Shevron confessed to the Lucerne bank burglary on Christmas morning after a rooming house raid in Kansas City. Foster identified as the Saline bank robber from October, claiming a stranger aided planning and received $50 of the nearly $2,500 haul. he also said the partner supplied vault-entry equipment in Pittsburgh where he and Shevron studied welding and prepared the break-in.
In Columbus Kansas, December 2 AP reports Francis Wagner, sought for ten years in the slaying of miner Alva Cox during a dice game holdup at the Lucky Jew zinc mine near Treece in 1920, may go free due to unavailable witnesses. Lawrence Sloan was convicted and paroled. Homer White was acquitted. Wagner was arrested in Detroit last week.
In Rangoon a rumor spreads that the rebel leader in Tharawaddy district is a Shan prince foretold by a fortune teller to become King of Burma. The claim circulates as officials, observers, and locals weigh the source and potential impact on ongoing unrest.
Robert L Williams 18, a University of Texas sophomore and son of an Austin Methodist minister, faced a preliminary hearing in Port Arthur on a murder charge for the slaying of his 16 year old sweetheart Elizabeth Johnson. He denies the shooting claiming the pistol was for self harm to prove his love as her awaiting reconciliation with pastor Glenn Flinn failed. Reverend Williams said he would stand by his son and Elizabeth Johnson was buried in Beaumont.
In Oklohoma City area a highwayman wounded Ralph Andrews, 20, and Miss Lucy Lauderdale, 19, as they sat in a parked car. Andrews wrestled the attacker, Frank Rendall, 38, of Foss, Oklahoma, disarmed him, and Rendall was shot in the leg with his own weapon. Andrews, Lauderdale, and Rendall were hospitalized in serious condition.
Work resumes across Steubenville district mills with three departments and the new 7,000,000 rail and bar mill of the Wierton Steel Company starting today. Carnegie plant operations resume at Mingo Junction while the 10-inch mill is expected midweek. Follansbee tin mill departments run at full capacity and Toronto bar mill and roughing mills idle.
Maurice Rothschild, a Chicago banker, told the New York supreme court that he broke his engagement to Vera McCord because she drank excessively. Miss McCord had sued him in 1929 for 250000 alleging breach of promise. He did not deny the engagement but said her liquor problem made marriage impossible. Decision reserved.
A House appropriations sub committee approved 45.8 million dollars for drought relief loans and will report to the full committee next Monday. Secretary Hyde defended the total 46.8 million dollar need and said 25 million could cover seed feed and fertilizer loans if more is unnecessary. The chair predicted swift House action and rapid loan distribution after approval.

In Youngstown on December 29 AP Cyrus 5 reports Eaton and his associates won a lawsuit but lost 14 million dollars. If Judge Jenkins had ruled for the Bethlehem Youngstown Steel merger dissenting stock would have been worth at least 110 dollars a share. The merger was enjoined and the stock market value is about 70 dollars. The difference of four dollars per share affects about 250000 shares. Ohio law allows dissenting stockholders to seek cash value with six percent interest. Sheet and Tube fixed cash value at 110 dollars per share. Dissenters demanded 175 to 250 dollars a share as of a potential arbitration.
In Burma’s Tharawaddy district British forces battle native rebels for the first major engagement after two weeks of terror. Jungle fire and smoke hinder progress as machine-gun fire roars over a thirty mile front with heavy casualties reported on both sides.
Boston AP report: Professor John E. B. Drewry of the University of Georgia urged that journalism be made a profession and that high schools require courses in appreciation of newspapers and magazines. He argued such education would improve public view of journalism and called for a new economics theory to make newspaper work attractive to ambitious youths.
Prof. Charles P. Judd of the University of Chicago urged in a prepared address that language ethics and other non material social institutions are more serviceable to social sciences than biological evolution. He called for recognition of non material social institutions in psychology. The essential reality in an institution is the common idea and emotional impulse governing the group.
Federal income tax returns in 1928 were filed by 99,295 Missourians led by St. Louis City with 49,976. Jackson County Kansas City area was second with 21,617 and St Louis County third with 9,445. Other counties include Buchanan Jasper Greene Audrain Boone Butler Callaway Cape Girardeau Cole Lafayette Marion Pettis Randolph Saline Camden Ozark Maries Hickory Rhagnon Bollinger and Carter with lower figures.

Coy Johnson, arrested in Garden City Kansas, was identified by three Interstate National Bank employees as the little fellow in the big hat who guarded workers during the 45 000 robbery. Johnson denied guilt and refused extradition to Missouri. He was taken to Finney County police. Frank Alton and Bert Davis are held for investigation and deny involvement.
