Legal Aid Grant Fight Tops City Officials Talks

In St Louis discussions on Hearnes veto of a $390,000 antipoverty grant to the Legal Aid Society the Office Fund backed $36,000 and officials from the Bar Association and local government urged guidelines to limit representation to the eligible poor and dismiss staff involved in civil disobedience. Officials said a compromise may be possible if new guidelines are adopted and the veto is overridden or revised.

Republicans Plot Statewide Air Tour to Back St. Louis Dinner

Before questions began, Douglas outlined a one day statewide air tour with other Republicans planned for December 30 to drum up support for a fundraising dinner in St. Louis on February 10. Vice President Spiro T. Agnew is slated as principal speaker at the dinner.

Missouri chaplain program not threatened by AG ruling

Salvation Army exceeds chaplaincy funding goal in drive

Alett called the meeting useful for strengthening patient care in Salvation Army institutions and noted the chaplaincy advisory committee is reviewing chaplains role in community psychiatry. The Division of Mental Health staffs 28 fulltime chaplains. the annual drive raised about 5 675 by noon, with 135 from five volunteers who caroled last week. Rev Mr Price praised Ulett and the division for total patient care and the program's religious aspect. Attendees included leaders from First Baptist Church.

Five families named in local church chaplaincy drive

The list includes Donna Schaefferkoetter and Cindy Burgess of Overlook and Meadow Lanes, Linda Burton, Sally Cook of Lake B. Cook, and Julie Carroll with many relatives, plus Dr. Shands and Rev. John Burkhalter among clergy. They helped raise about $500 for the Salvation Army via local business contacts.

Japanese visitor seeks cattle amid Missouri plant fire

AP reports a mobile homes factory near Noel Missouri burned on Tuesday, following a Monday blaze at a nearby trailer plant. Dr Sumi Momose aims to buy cattle in Missouri while evaluating dairy and beef stock for export to Japan. Loss is estimated at $200,000 with calves to be sold. causes attributed to an accidental welding torch spark as fire crews from Missouri and Arkansas fought the blazes. St John Lutheran Church hosts St Louis Lutheran Children's Choir

Body of youth found in Valley Park woods

The body of 17 year old Minor Paul Jones son of Valley Park alderman Robert Jones was found by two youths trapping rabbits in snow covered fields. Autopsy did not reveal cause of death but indicated he had been dead five to seven weeks after being reported absent from FF Knox Kentucky since October 3.
