President Roosevelt schedules a cabinet discussion on an accurate count of the nation's unemployed and seeks about 300 million dollars in deficiency relief for the rest of the fiscal year. He will deliver the annual message to Congress personally, with Congress opening January 5.
The University of Missouri curators reappointed Don Faurot as head football coach for 1937 and 1938 at a salary of 6000 dollars per year. The move follows a prior 4500 dollar contract, with an expected renewals for his staff Chauncel Simpson Phil Bengtson and John Simmons. Faurot led Missouri to six wins one loss and one tie finishing second in the Big Six.
Winners of the first three awards in the show were announced as preparations for the Christmas event continued. One inmate requested a pre-burial casket chosen by the prisoner, and his body was slated for burial in Burlington, Pennsylvania. Governor Bark refused clemency, and official witnesses included Claude Hail and several doctors. The event drew the largest city crowd in years.
Kans, city gun event details show Violet Rife aged 19 from Grandview Missouri killed when the car she rode in struck a Missouri Pacific freight train. Her escort, O C Baker 31 a sailor on furlough, was seriously injured. Baker's ship is at Pearl Harbor Hawaii.

Kenneth Brother, 25, of Burlingame, California, has been admitted to the priesthood at Nishi Hongan temple in Kyoto. He plans to work as a Buddhist missionary among Americans and Japanese in California and Japan.
London December 18 British Foreign Secretary Eden told the House of Commons Britain has sold a small consignment of gas masks to the Spanish government in Madrid at their request. He said 5,000 masks had been sold in the last 24 hours, but the fascist regime had not asked for any. He added private organizations may still send masks to Madrid and that the government is ready to help meet civilian needs. He warned scrapping the non intervention pact would risk a European war.
Chicago AP reports that John Hamilton was voted a $25000 annual salary by the Republican National Committee executive panel to devote full time to party rehabilitation. The decision followed a 74 to 2 vote approving his continued leadership after a confidence show of support. Hamilton will tour the U.S. to strengthen GOP power, establish permanent headquarters in multiple states, urge frequent meetings, and address the party deficit with a special committee.
Christmas arrived at the White House as wreaths were ordered for windows and the front door. A large tree will decorate the East room while President Roosevelt and his family will have a private tree on the second floor.
Harold Miller, 15, a Burlington Junction basketball team member, was hospitalized in Maryville with a fractured rib and deep facial cuts after a car carrying seven players from a game at Skidmore collided with a freight train on Wabash tracks in Burlington last midnight.
Chinese officials met under armed guards as Marshal Chang pressed terms to end the civil war and free Chiang Kai Shek. General Chiang Ting-Wen, freed to relay demands, held talks with Pr. H. Kung and Madame Chiang. James Elder’s movements added to the uncertainty amid a looming assault on Sianfu.
Dec 18 AP report from Springfield Missouri confirms Carl Cairns 46 of Kenmore New York died today, the third victim of a December 15 auto crash ten miles east of Springfield. Earlier, Mrs Theodore Pome 26 of Buffalo New York died and Mrs Bessie Shulman 40 of Buffalo died from injuries. The party was en route to California. Pome was recovering.
AP reports that by December 16 more than 21.3 million workers applied for Social Security pension accounts and 12.6 million account cards were distributed. The totals come from 1,072 typing centers with most centers active, reflecting early program uptake as of mid December.
The security board reported 2,157,064 applications for identification numbers as the public continues to submit forms in large numbers. Deadlines set by the internal revenue service for both employers and employees have passed, but there is no sign of punitive action against delinquents.
Plattsburg Missouri December report says Florence O Connor a Cameron pianist filed a circuit court suit seeking 20000 damages for arm and hand injuries from a December 5 automobile crash on US 36 near Cameron. Defendants include her sister in law Margaret Younger in whose car she rode and Rolland Powell of Lathrop and his son Rey Powell driver of a dump truck.
Macon Missouri December 18 AP James Hunt 48 testifying at his third trial on a charge of murdering Chet Newland 42 described two hunters meeting in woods a whispered remark from a girl companion and a burst of gunfire Hunt said he was searching for a lost knife on the Selt river August 8 1935 when he met Nowland and Miss Blanche Stamp Nowland fired after a whisper and Hunt said this enraged him he fired as Nowland appeared to raise again An undertaker testified Newland bore powder burns Miss Stamp said Hunt held the pistol close to Newland as he lived The case was expected to reach the jury this afternoon previous trials ended in hung juries.
Snow fell across Missouri with measurable amounts in Kansas City .14 inches and St Joseph .06, Springfield .18, Columbia .02 as local temps hovered around 30s. Forecasters warned of continuing clouds eastern areas tonight and a breakup west tomorrow while St Louis and other cities logged highs near 39.
The widow and six children of Thomas L. Wiley, former Cameron mayor and state representative killed by a train on December 9, will share equally in his large land estate under his will filed for probate. The heirs include Edgar L. Wiley of Cameron, Mrs. Oliver M. Gilliland, and Mamie Wiley of St. (location truncated).
Louis and Mrs Nellie M Shaw Marshall and Mrs Pauline Oney and Miss Lillian Wiley are named as executors for a Moultrie County estate. St Wiley born in Bloomington Illinois. Texas hosts about fifteen native wild grape species, nearly half of all known kinds.
