New Orleans December 12 AP Representative Carl E Mapes of Michigan 64 a member of the house committee conducting a hearing on the Cole oil regulation bill died today as the hearing neared its second day Mapes was on a southern tour with the committee led by Representative Willis PB Cole of Maryland The death shocked colleagues including Cole Edward A Kelly Charles A Wolverton and Herron Pearson.

Kansas City Dec 12 AP Directors of the Missouri Baptist General Association consider a $30,000 boost to the 1940 budget. Dr Edgar Godbold says it would be the biggest increase in 10 years. Part funds would aid pastors for 100 churches lacking pulpit workers. The 1939 budget was 375,000.
President Roosevelt will depart Washington on Thursday and spend the weekend at his Hyde Park, New York, residence, per AP dispatch dated December 12.

He noted even greater superiority against German fighters.
