Bluefield on December 6 reports Mrs. G C Maddox on an eight party line could not get through to call firemen as a blaze in her farm home grew. She tossed water on the fire while neighbors talked, delaying the response about 30 minutes. Firefighters saved some furniture and, incidentally, the telephone. Also noted Deanna Durbin plans to marry Charles David on December 16 at Sarreguemines near the Franco Saar border.

Storm Delays but 125 Enroll in Adult Night School
Despite stormy weather 125 persons registered last night at the Junior College for Adult Night School. Classes start Thursday at 7 pm with registration open until Dec 19, Supt A L Crow says final enrollment may exceed last year's 400. Additional sign ups today at the library and on Dec 18 and 19. Shorthand, painting and oil painting courses attract many, while enrollment lags in Spanish, speech and music.

Dr Earl L Loyd of 1917 West Main Street has been appointed secretary and board member of the Missouri Heart Association, with Dr A M Estes of Cape Girardeau as president. He replaces his brother Dr H O Lord, who resigned after moving practice to Tulsa last month. Loyd, a KU Medical School graduate, previously practiced in Salina Kansas and Des Moines Polk County Hospital. He spent three years at the Mayo Foundation in Rochester.

Five more candidates for the November general election filed campaign expense affidavits with County Clerk Bill Tellman, bringing total filers to 17 and showing a combined spending of 3,620.29 dollars, an average 3292.95 per candidate.
