Two Die In Traffic Mishap In Missouri and Labor News

An elderly DeSoto couple, Arthur Perry and Alda Perry, 85 and 84, die in a head on collision on U S Highway 6 near Pewely Missouri. Five others, including Nelson Holloman Jr. and Hattie Holloman, are seriously injured as traffic blocks a four lane stretch. The report also notes longshore union conflicts with the Waterfront Commission and protests over work permits for members with criminal records.

Six children aged 9 weeks to six years died in a Cleveland tenement fire in a crowded east side Negro district. Victims include William Murphy Jr, Veronica Murphy, Larry Murphy, How ard Cottrell, Lever Grove, and Perk Grove. Parkway Group Named by Governor for Scenic Highway Panel

A new Indoenember Mississippi parkway committee has been appointed by Gov. Phil M. Donnelly to assist in developing the proposed scenic highway from Canada to the Gulf. Members include Harris D. Rolla Man Fined On Check Charge

Rolla resident Frank Treece pleaded guilty to issuing a check with insufficient funds and was fined 15 dollars plus costs by Magistrate Foster. The July 31 cashing at North St. Louis Trust Co. was made by Bob Hurke of Jefferson City. Treece could not pay the fine and was jailed in Cole County. Verb Wilten of Russellville received 10 dollars and costs for peace disturbance after a complaint by Ollie Kehr alleging offensive language.

Lamar Passes Water System Measure After Narrow Win

In Lamar a water system proposal cleared a special election by a slim margin, 949 to 497, meeting a four-seventh majority. About 110000 will refinance outstanding water revenue bonds while the remainder funds disposal plant revamp and the city reservoir. A separate 3100,000 bond plan for improving the lighting system was also approved.

Suspended Term and Fine for Local Petty Larceny

Julius Mulkey, 29, of 608 Lafayette St, charged with petty larceny after stealing merchandise valued at $5.46 from A and P Grocery, 207 Adams St, shortly after 4 30 p m yesterday. He received a one year suspended jail term and a $5 fine, with conditions to report to the court twice monthly for 12 months, after a wild chase ending at the Missouri Pacific yard where three warning shots were fired.
