New Jaycee Officers Named for Jefferson City Fair

Election of new officers for the Junior Chamber of Commerce Fair Association was announced after a meeting and board election. Clifford Alten said the date change aims to give the new officers time to prepare permanent fair installations and other work for next year. Five new board members were elected, replacing five former members. holdovers include David Harrison and Allen. A dance for Snycees and wives was discussed for later this month.

Missouri unemployment payments total over 1.7 million in July

Unemployed Missourians received 1,710,396 in July under all jobless insurance programs run by the Missouri Division of Employment Security. Of this amount 1,488,912 went to state unemployment benefit recipients, 192,461 to unemployed veterans, and 29,023 to the federal employee group. The outlay was about 75 percent of June total and 51.2 percent below July 1954. Residents of other states earned in Missouri received 63,536, or 4.3 percent of all payments. Weeks of compensated unemployment in July totaled 75,117, down 28,744 from June.

Planes Do Not Carry Live Missiles in St Louis

McDonnell Aircraft Corp states its test planes do not carry live bombs rockets or guided missiles in the St Louis area. Public relations director Robert H Wood says rumors are inaccurate and inflammatory and notes planes often carry a dummy or dud bomb that could be mistaken for a real weapon.

Anniversary to Be Observed By Social Security Office Here

Open house scheduled from 3 to 6 pm Friday at the new Jefferson City Social Security Office 428 Madison Street with films and slides to explain the program. Ford notes growth from 1935 coverage to nine of ten workers now eligible for Old Age and Survivors benefits, with 8,960 recipients totaling $391,889 monthly in the area. The new office opened about three months ago after moving from the Post Office building.

It Takes Firemen With Ladder to Get Boy Off Roof

Joe Lee Hult, 10, a Alabama boy, climbed a two story house roof while playing with a ball in St Louis area. Firemen used a hook and ladder to rescue him. His mother Mrs Mildred Hutt of Tuscaloosa, Ala reported the incident. The tennis ball remains missing.
