Cleveland August 5 AP David S Ingalls assistant secretary of the navy for aeronautics described giant rigid airships as the military future of naval aviation. He told a Cleveland Chamber of Commerce audience that the navy would deploy airships capable of cruising for days and thousands of miles with five to six airplanes in hold, able to launch and recover them in flight. The balloons would scout beyond cruiser ranges and, with radio, form a formidable fleet extension, while praising Ward T Van Orman for ballooning work and noting the importance of free ballooning to rigid airship development.
